World officials deem JCPOA as a peaceful solution to int
January 20, The Iran Project - Recently, several top global officials have described the 2015 nuclear deal (between Iran and G5+1) as an achievement of multilateralism and a model of peaceful solution to international issues.

Addressing a meeting of UN Security Council on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction on Thursday (Jan. 18), Chinese Ambassador to the UN Wu Haitao, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Dutch Ambassador to the United Nations Karel van Oosterom, Swedish Ambassador to the UN Olof Skoog, French Ambassador to the UN Francois Delattre as well as Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev described the deal as a practical example for settling most complicated issues by means of negotiation.

Haitao said that all should continue effective efforts to ensure the full implementation of the pact, reiterating that non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction is a security issue and achieving it requires redefining international relations and taking actions to stop war and establish peace.

Meanwhile, Lavrov stressed the importance of preserving the nuclear deal reached, adding that the overwhelming majority of the international community recognizes that the July 2015 agreement which is making a tangible contribution to strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime and to the maintenance of international peace and security.

In another development, Oosterom noted that the nuclear deal is a milestone accomplishment of international diplomacy, adding that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has been proved to be a success, as verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN nuclear watchdog.

Skoog stated that he JCPOA is designed to ensure the exclusively peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program. This crucial agreement contributes to stability within the region and beyond and contributes significantly to strengthening the global non-proliferation architecture.

Also, Delattre underlined the important role of Iran nuclear deal in the regional and international security.

Despite the fact that Iran has always said that its missile program is for deterrence and non-negotiable, the French envoy called for dialogue between Iran and other sides on the issue.

In a meantime, Nazarbayev noted that Iran nuclear deal became a practical example in solving most complicated issues by means of negotiation.

"We should definitely bring political trust and a systemic dialogue back to the international affair,'"Nazarbayev said, adding that JCPOA may serve as a good example.
