IRNA � US President Donald Trump and his administration have no way but to maintain the Iran nuclear deal, said a Lebanese Middle East analyst in a recent interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).


'It is not simple for Trump to withdraw from an agreement signed by former US administration,' Sami Nader said.

Nader said for some reasons the US president has to stay committed with the international nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

'There are two main reasons; firstly, the other five parties involved in the deal have proved that they are committed to the nuclear accord while they believe the JCPOA is in line with preventing development of nuclear weapons,' he said.

'Secondly, US Secretary of Defense James Mattis, as well as National Security Advisor HR McMaster and Secretary of State John Kelly as main members of US administration verify the Iran Deal and believe that it has been functioning appropriately,' he added.

But, the Lebanese Middle East expert went on to argue that Trump is after changing the nuclear accord by adding some articles to it and eliminating others.

'In my opinion, President Trump first wants to remove the 12-year sunset clause stipulated in the deal to stop Iran from resuming its nuclear activities after that time,' Nader said.

'Then he [Trump] wants to add to the deal the issue of Iran's ballistic missile program, while urging Iran to provide inspectors [full] access to its sites,' he said.

The Lebanese analyst stressed that Iran has fulfilled its JCPOA commitments.

'The Europeans rightly believe that Iran will stay committed to the nuclear accord and even the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly emphasized Iran's commitment to the JCPOA,' Nader said.
