UK Foreign Secretary: European partners unanimous on Iran's deal

IRNA Britain's Foreign Secretary said on Thursday that European signatories to the nuclear deal with Iran have been 'unanimous' in supporting the deal.

'The Iran nuclear deal makes the world safer,' Boris Johnson wrote on his twitter page after a meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and his French and German counterparts on Thursday.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany signed the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in 2015. Under the agreement Iran agreed to curb its nuclear activities in exchange for economic sanctions relief.

The meeting, also attended by the EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini, was held a day before (US President Donald )Trump's decision on Iran's sanctions waiver.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed Iran's commitment to the deal, but Trump in October 2017 said that the deal is the 'worst' that the United States has ever entered, and his administration would not certify it anymore.

'European partners were unanimous today in our determination to preserve the deal,' the British diplomat said in his tweet.
