Iranian official raps US military presence in Syria

Tasnim An adviser to Irans parliament speaker decried the presence of US military forces in Syria without the consent of the Damascus government, saying Washington is pursuing its vicious objectives in the guise of supporting Syrian Kurds.

In a meeting with Palestines ambassador to Tehran on Thursday, senior adviser to the Iranian Parliament Speaker for international affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian warned against the establishment of US military bases inside Syria.

Washington is pursuing its own and Israels rogue plots under the pretext of backing the Kurdish forces in Syria, he added.

Amir Abdollahian also denounced the US presidents move to recognize the city of al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel, saying the holy city will remain an indispensable and eternal part of Palestine.

For his part, the Palestinian envoy slammed Donald Trump as a puppet of the Zionist regime of Israel, calling for stronger unity in the Muslim world.

The meeting came one day after Chief of the Russian General Staff, Army General Valery Gerasimov, said that members of the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group are undergoing training at the US Al-Tanf military base in Syria.

According to Gerasimov, terrorist groups are also present in the Al-Shaddadi camp in Syrias northeast, where another US military base is also located, TASS reported.

In a meeting with chairman of Russias State Duma in Islamabad on Sunday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani also voiced opposition to the US military presence in Syria, saying such a destructive role would obstruct the peace process in the Arab country.
