Alborz quake kills 1, injures 57

IRNA The 4.2-magnitude earthquake that happened early on Wednesday in Alborz Province, west of Tehran, killed one and injured 57 people.


The quake occurred at 00:54 hours local time (21:24 GMT); the epicenter of the quake was at 50.93 degrees longitude and 35.68 degrees latitude and in the depth of 12 kilometers.

Three people have been hospitalized, Director General of Alborz Cisi Management Ooffice Mahdi Mehrvar said.

Emergency and firefighters are now ready on site, he added.

The epicenter of the quake was registered at Tehran and Alborz border.

Another earthquake measuring 5.2 on Richter scale jolted the Iranian capital city, Tehran, on Dec 20.

Iran is crisscrossed by major geological faultlines and has suffered several devastating earthquakes in recent years.
