FM Zarif slams US hypocricy in Yemen crisis

IRNA Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has condemned US hypocrite stance over the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

'On the very day US regurgitates Saudi & Emirati propaganda on Yemen, CAR [Conflict Armament Research] report confirms US & Saudi weapons end up in the hands of ISIS. With this US administration, it seems hypocrisy knows no bounds,' Zarif said in a Twitter message released on Friday.

Most Islamic State weapons were looted from the Iraqi and Syrian armies. But some were originally provided by other countries; mainly the United States and Saudi Arabia, to Syrian opposition groups fighting against President Bashar al-Assad, according to Reuters quoted CAR as saying.

These findings are a stark reminder of the contradictions inherent in supplying weapons into armed conflicts in which multiple competing and overlapping non-state armed groups operate.'

Evidence collected by CAR indicates that the United States has repeatedly diverted EU-manufactured weapons and ammunition to opposition forces in the Syrian conflict. IS forces rapidly gained custody of significant quantities of this materiel.

Since 2015, the Yemeni people have been under attacks of Saudi Arabia and its allies which have resulted in an unprecedented human catastrophe in the Arab country; the international bodies have frequently warned about the consequences of the brutal attacks and blockade in Yemen.
