Iran Parliament Speaker attends Int値 confab on drug trafficking in Russia




December 5, The Iran Project - Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani arrived in the Russian capital, Moscow, on Sunday (Dec. 3) to attend an international conference on drug trafficking which is held in the presence of MPs from 44 countries.


While in Moscow, Larijani held talks with Pakistan National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, made an interview with the Russian News Agency TASS and addressed the conference, as well.


Larijani and Ayaz Sadiq discussed major regional issues and mutual collaboration in a meeting and discussed bolstering cooperation between the two neighboring and friendly states.


Talking to Larijani, Volodin nderlined development of economic cooperation with Iran, adding that the two countries should strengthen economic relations within the framework of their parliamentary cooperation.


Larijani, for his part, called for boosting all-out ties between the two states, adding that Iran and Russia would continue cooperation in fighting terrorism.


Larijani highlighted significance of fighting drug smuggling, stressing the need for international cooperation to counter the evil phenomenon.


In an interview with TASS, Larijani said Iran and Russia are at the frontline of fighting terrorism and have close cooperation in the field.


Larijani said that Iran has undertaken a serious campaign against drug trafficking, as it is currently at the frontline of fighting drugs.


In recent years, Iran parliament has approved fundamental laws for fighting drug trafficking and has set up National Headquarters for Fighting Drugs under president.


Addressing the gathering, Larijani called on the world governments and parliaments on Monday to follow anti-drug and counter-terrorism policies concurrently, and put such policies on top of their agenda.


Larijani stated that the parliamentary groups should be formed for following anti-narcotics actions adding that the issue of narcotics is a global problem which demands a joint international responsibility.
