Iran needs no permission for self-defense: Velayati

IRNA Iran neither asks for permission to defend itself, nor does it let others meddle in its affairs, a senior Iranian official said here on Sunday.

'The Iranian people did not stage the (Islamic) Revolution if they had wanted others to decide for them,' Ali Akbar Velayati, a member of the Expediency Council told reporters on the occasion of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution's letter written to the Western youth last year.

The Westerners, Velayati said, think in vain that they can regain the influence they had in Iran before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Velayati made his remarks in response to a question about the West's claim over negotiations about Iran's missile power which top Iranian officials have stressed is for the country's defense porpuses, and a 'non-negotiable issue'.
