Joining Saudi-led coalition would be disastrous: Pak MP

IRNA - A senior member of Pakistani Parliament warned that a decision of the government to join the Saudi-led coalition would be disastrous for Pakistan.

Shireen Mazari talking to media said that Saudi Arabia is forming a sectarian alliance and the US President Donald Trump is supporting it.

This is an anti Iran alliance, whatever name you give it and joining such controversial alliance would be disastrous for Pakistan, she said.

The member of Foreign Affairs Standing Committee said the government had assured that before signing the agreement to join the alliance they would take the Parliament into confidence.

The government had agreed to get the approval from the Parliament before joining the Saudi-led coalition, but now they are reluctant to seek such an approval, the lawmaker said.

Leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) went on to say that she tried to bring the issue in the parliament but was not given time.

She said that on November 26 the rules and regulation of the alliance will be finalized but Saudi crown prince has already made Pakistan's former Army Chief General (R) Raheel Sharif as head of the alliance.
