First Islamic states Water Council meeting held in Turkey

IRNA The first ministerial meeting of OIC member states Water Council was held in Turkey.


The meeting was held on Thursday with coordination of Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and hosted by Turkish Minister of Forests and Water Management Veysel Eroglu.

The agenda of the meeting was cooperation in the field of water, challenging risks on water resources of member states, providing water security and effects of climate changes.

In the meeting, ministers from 11 chosen countries by OIC, including Iranian Minister of Energy Reza Ardakanian, were present.

Addressing the meeting, the Iranian minister expressed hope that, with collective cooperation among regional states, a practical solution could be worked out for water problems.

The OIC is comprised of more than 50 Islamic states.

Given the emergee of serious water crisis in the region in recent years, the OIC established Water Council of Islamic states in its latest session with participation of 11 countries to examine problems and issues of water in the region in order to find mechanisms for its elimination.
