Top Iranian, Russian officials confer Syria in Moscow

November 15, The Iran Project - Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari arrived in Moscow on Tuesday (Nov 14) for bilateral talks and discussing recent developments in the region and Syria.

During his day-long visit to Moscow, he hold talk with his Russian counterpart Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin and the country's Special Envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev.

During the meeting, the head of Irans delegation to Astana Talks on Syria and the Russian official, Mikhail Bogdanov, who is President Vladimir Putin's special representative for the Middle East, discussed the latest developments in the region and the cooperation between the two countries to resolve the Syrian crisis.

Moreover, Jaberi Ansari and Lavrentiev discussed the latest developments in the region and explored ways of cooperation between the two countries to settle the Arab-country issue.

In a meeting with Fomin, the two sides exchanged views on the de-escalation zones, and the documents the guarantor states, Iran, Russia and Turkey, are currently negotiating.

Talking to IRNA at the end of his visit to Moscow on Tuesday, he said that he held useful talks with Bugdanov and Lavrentiev.

He also said that necessary coordination for Syrian issues, fighting terrorism, political settlement of Syrian crisis and next steps to that effect were dealt with during the meetings.

Dialogue between Iran and Russia on completing the process for diplomatic settlement of Syrian crisis is useful, he said.

The 7th round of Syria peace talks brokered by Iran, Russia, and Turkey was held in Astana on October 30 and 31.

The fourth edition of the talks in May produced a memorandum of understanding on de-escalation zones in Syria, sharply reducing fighting in the country.

Diplomatic efforts to end fighting in Syria gained momentum in 2017 with the announcement of a ceasefire in the war-torn country in early January.
