European visitor stunned by Irans progress in food industry

Tasnim A member of a visiting delegation from the European Union said she was impressed by the level of standard of certain sectors of the food industry in Iran, hailing the countrys advances despite foreign sanctions.

A 70-strong delegation from the European Union, led by the EUs Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan, is Iran to visit a number of agricultural and industrial sites and hold talks on the bilateral relations.

After a visit to a cooking oil factory, a member of the visiting delegation, named Brinton, admitted that some of the sectors in Irans industry meet high standards.

Stressing the need for Iranian producers to look for export opportunities, the delegation member likened the sanctions imposed on Iran to Europes economic situation in the 1970s, which she said resulted in European development.

Iran and the EU members have signed several agricultural agreements since the removal of nuclear-related sanctions on Iran under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri announced this week that Tehran is going to host a European Union office as part of efforts to boost ties with the 28-nation bloc.
