Mogherini condoles families of Iran quake victims

IRNA - EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini on Monday expressed sympathy with the families of the victims of the strong earthquake that struck the border region of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq on Sunday evening in west of Iran.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the European foreign ministers meeting in Brussels, Belgium, Mogherini voiced the EU readiness to cooperate with Iran in rendering emergency relief aid to quake-stricken people.

Touching upon Iran nuclear deal, top EU official said the agreement, officially known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), would not be reviewed during the meeting.

Mogherini said she is slated to present a report in the gathering about her recent meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, and her fresh dialogue with the US Congressmen in Washington.

Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN Representative and coordinator in Tehran Gary Lewis in separate messages have offered their deepest sympathies to the families affected by the earthquake in the region.

The 7.3-magnitude earthquake in Kermanshah Province, western Iran has so far claimed the lives of 328 people and injured over 3,950.
