US envoy to UN accuses Iran of 'Providing Weapons to Houthis in Yemen'



Sputnik News- The US envoy to the UN has blamed Iran for the recent Yemeni Houthi rebel attack targeting Saudi Arabia in a claim repeatedly denied by Tehran.




"By providing these types ofweapons tothe Huthi [Houthi] militias inYemen, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is violating two UN resolutions simultaneously," US Ambassador tothe UN Nikki Haley has claimed.

She referred tothe information that a ballistic missile launched bythe Houthis intoSaudi Arabia inJuly 2017 was allegedly an? Iranian Qiam, the type ofweapon that was not present inYemen beforethe start ofthe conflict.

Houthis' Missile Attack

Haley's statement comes several days afterSaudi Arabia intercepted a missile launched bythe Yemeni Houthi rebels, prompting theUS president's reaction, who has also blamed Iran forthe attack.

While Saudi Arabia accuses Iran, its key rival inthe region, ofallegedly arming and training the rebels inYemen, Tehran has strongly denied the claims, although it makes no secret ofthe country's political support forthe Houthis.
Most recently, Iran has commented ona claim bySaudi Arabias Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman who hadblamed Tehranoveralleged arms supplies tothe Houthis, calling the allegations "contrary toreality."


In Yemen, the Houthis have been involved inthe armed conflict withforces backed bythe Saudi-led coalition since2015. The conflict has resulted ina dire humanitarian situation inthe country, withmillions inneed ofvarious kinds ofassistance.
