Diplomat hopes UNSC resolution 2231 will be long-lasting

Tasnim An Iranian deputy foreign minister expressed the hope that the United Nations Security Councils Resolution 2231, which endorsed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), would outlast other resolutions.

Addressing a ceremony marking the UN Day in Tehran on Tuesday, Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said he hopes that Resolution 2231 would become the longest lasting of the resolutions passed by the UNSC.

The UN has not ratified the JCPOA, but the nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) is in fact part of the Resolution 2231, he added.

Araqchi also hailed the JCPOA as an example of diplomatic efforts to settle a fabricated crisis.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as E3+3) on July 14, 2015, signed the JCPOA, a 159-page nuclear agreement that terminated nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Tehran.

Afterwards, the 15-memebr UN Security Council passed the resolution that endorsed the JCPOA.
