Commander: US, Israel after damaging Iran's N. centers by cyber war

FNA- Commander of the Iranian Armed Forces' Cyber and New Threats Base Major General Mostafa Izadi warned that the US and Israel have plotted to inflict damage on Iran's nuclear sites through cyber attacks.

"The US and the Zionist regime are attempting to damage Iran's nuclear installations, and the enemies of the revolution are after harming our nuclear centers without any physical action and only through cyber war," General Izadi said, addressing a conference in Tehran on Sunday.

Noting that Israel has different possibilities in the cyber field and has held several drills to launch a cyber war against Iran, he said, "We should prepare for confrontation against possible threats by them in electronic warfare."

His remarks came after Head of Iran's Civil Defense Organization Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali announced that the country has been the target of over 50,000 cyber attacks by enemies during the past Iranian year (ended on March 20).

"The cyber threats are rated as low, mid and high or cyber weapon levels and the third level is dangerous because they destroy the country's vital infrastructures," General Jalali told reporters in Tehran late last month.

"Over 50,000 cyber attacks were launched against our country last year, 94% of which were of the first and second types and almost 6% of them were of the high-risk level type," he added.

General Jalali said that a major part of the cyber attacks were identified and repelled, while the rest are controlled and managed.

Also in October, General Jalali warned that the new US administration is hatching plots to pose a combination of threats against Iran in the economic and cyber space.

"The new US administration has plans to use a series of threats against Iran. We should foresee a serious approach towards this plot," General Jalali told reporters in a press conference in Tehran.

Noting that the main arena for the US hostilities against Iran is the economic field, he said, "We should design a defensive economic plan to have the capability to confront plots to reimpose sanctions and increase pressures."

General Jalali described cyber threats as another plot hatched by the US against Iran, and said Tehran has estimates about cyber attacks on its infrastructures by Washington as US President Donald Trump also spoke of confrontational cyber measures.

"We are facing serious threats in the cyber space," he warned.
