Russia to help US to get back to reality - Moscow

Sputnik - The Russian deputy foreign minister has commented on the latest US sanctions against Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Moscow's relations with Washington.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has stated that US actions towardsRussia are moving bilateral relations towarda deadlock and Washington is responsible forthat.

Ryabkov began byunderlining that the US sanctions are affecting Americans themselves inthe first place. He went onsaying that Moscow did not see anything more onthe part ofthe United States thansignals aboutthe intention tonormalize relations withRussia.

The deputy foreign minister mentioned the pressure put onMoscow and attempts tochange the country's policy throughthe sanctions, calling them 'regretful' and 'concerning'. He stressed that Moscow would continue toseek a way outof the current deadlock inRussian-American relations.
"We will continue toseek, asfar aspossible, ways outof the current situation,' the diplomat said. "We will try toreturn the Americans toreality and show that their interests also suffer fromthis kind ofmethods."

Sanctions AgainstIran

Ryabkov has also mentioned the other batch ofsanctions recently imposed against41 Iranian individuals and companies, including the air force unit ofthe Iran's Revolutionary Guards, calling them ineffective and illegal, asthey are unilateral.
"Our approach tounilateral sanctions is universal. We consider such practices illegal, contrary tointernational law and the basic principles ofinterstate communication," Ryabkov told reporters when asked tocomment onthe sanctions imposed onthe IRGC Tuesday.

This comment comes the day aftertheUS Treasury Department had announced the extension ofsanctions onIRGC, imposed onOctober 13 overthe guards allegedly "supporting terrorism," a claim strongly denied byTehran. As specified inthe published documents ofthe US government, these sanctions are introduced inthe framework ofthe US work oncountering the proliferation ofweapons ofmass destruction. Sanctions were introduced, inparticular, againstIRGC commander Mohammad Ali Jafari, the drilling company Oriental Oil Kish, Sepanir Oil & Gas Energy Eng. Co. company, aswell asone ofthe largest Iranian companies Tidewater Middle East Co.

Iran Nuclear Deal

The minister underlined that the existing agreement onthe Iran's nuclear program shouldn`t be changed. According toRyabkov, a basic concern now is 'to fully preserve what has been achieved.'
"I would not say that the US administration is directly threatening toget outof the deal. Strictly speaking, the US administration warns that if it does not achieve its goal interms of 'improving' the agreement, then options are possible. But inour opinion, no changes, additions, adjustments tothe current agreement are possible because it represents a very well-adjusted, delicate balance ofinterests and compromises," Ryabkov told journalists.

He went onsaying that the US would be responsible incase ofa failure ofthe Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction (JCPOA).

"The situation is aggravating, because the mood inthe US Congress is very, very anti-Iranian. But ultimately, the responsibility forthe hypothetical collapse ofthe JCPOA will be entirely onthe American side. They heard all the assessments fromRussia, Iran, European colleagues, China. And they should understand that the consequences ofreckless steps inthis sphere will be extremely difficult," Ryabkov told journalists.

US PresidentDonald Trumprefused tore-certify the JCPOA, which was signed bysix nations afteryears ofdiplomatic work, accusing theIslamic Republicofviolating the spirit ofthe agreement. Despite the fact thatTrumpdecided not tocontest atthe international levelTehran'scompliance withthe deal, he has not excluded the US' possible withdrawal fromthe deal incase if the agreement is not improved.
