JCPOA strong enough not to be undermined by US: Iranian Diplomat

JCPOA strong enough not to be undermined by US: Iranian Diplomat
Tasnim Iranian Ambassador to Britain Hamid Baeedinejad shrugged off the US governments recent threats against the 2015 nuclear agreement, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying the deal is strong enough not to be undermined by Washington.

Addressing a meeting about the future of JCPOA held in the UK parliament on Tuesday night, Baeedinejad pointed to the recent remarks made by US President Donald Trump against the JCPOA, saying that despite all the rhetoric against the deal, the US government could not withdraw from the deal.

Questioning the US administrations move to sing the deal has discredited the Trump administration, he said, adding that this negative effect will not easily be offset.

However, the Iranian diplomat said, the JCPOA is so strong that the US government cannot undermine it.

The remarks came as US President Donald Trump, in a major confrontational stance against Iran, refused to certify the multilateral deal on Tehrans peaceful nuclear program.

Speaking from the White House on October 13, Trump said he will choose not to certify that Tehran is complying with the agreement.

Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republics compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.

The IAEA is responsible for monitoring Irans nuclear activities as per the nuclear deal and should also help Iran develop its nuclear energy program.
