IRNA � Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman on Wednesday sympathized with the Japanese government and people on a strong typhoon which claimed the lives of several people.

Bahram Qasemi also offered condolences to the bereaved families of the victims.

Typhoon Lan left 23 dead and 87 injured in Japan recently.

According to Japan meteorological agency, the storm, which had already dumped torrential rain over much of the country during the weekend, packed gusts up to 162 kilometers (100 miles) per hour.
