Iran missile, defense power not negotiable: Senior official

IRNA The secretary of Iran's Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei on Thursday reiterated that Iran will never negotiate over its missile and defense power, saying that if Washington rips up the Iran nuclear deal, Tehran will also set it aside and resume its nuclear activities.

ezaei made the remarks, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony held ton commemorate 247 martyrs of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps' Ground Forces.

He also said that distorting the name of the Persian Gulf by US President Donald Trump signifies Washington's helplessness and anger towards the the Islamic Republic and the Iranian people.

Trump's action in distorting the real name of the Persian Gulf forged unity among all the Iranians even the opponents of the establishment overseas, he said.

This is the first time an American president uses a false name for the Persian Gulf, a move indicating the US fully desperate in dealing with Iran, Rezaei said.

By such a behavior, the US president thinks he will be able to contain Iran's increasing influence in the region in cooperation with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

In response to a question on IRGC's role in liberation of Al-Mayadin in Syria from terrorists, the secretary of Iran's Expediency Council said that the IRGC does nothing, but providing advisory services, training and spiritual backing in Iraq and Syria.

'As an advisor, we will stand alongside the two countries' governments and people and we remain to feel responsible to support the oppressed across the world,' Rezaei said.

Reiterating that the US strategy has failed in the region, he said that following the defeat of Daesh (ISIS) terrorists, the Americans hatched other plots including Kurdistan Regional Government's move for secession which also fell apart.

Israel's attempts to help fulfill the US political and military objectives in the region will also fail, Rezaei said.

Trump laid out a new anti-Iran strategy in a speech last Friday and decertified its compliance with the July 2015 nuclear deal signed between Tehran and the major world powers, officially known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has for eight times verified Iran's full adherence to the 2015 nuclear accord.
