Azeri naval fleet leaves Iran after friendly visit

Tasnim - A naval flotilla from the Republic of Azerbaijan left Irans northern port city of Bandar Anzali on Monday after a landmark visit that included meetings between naval commanders of the two neighbors.





Azerbaijans peace and friendship naval fleet, consisting of a Stenka-class G124 patrol boat under the command of Subhan Bakirov, the lieutenant commander of the Azerbaijani Navy, returned home on Monday after berthing at Anzali port for four days.

In a farewell ceremony in the Iranian port city, commander of the Azeri flotilla pledged his countrys efforts to keep the Caspian Sea as the sea of peace and friendship.

Describing Caspian security as the common goal of Tehran and Baku, Captain Bakirov said the two sides could broaden interaction in various fields.

It was the first time in the history of bilateral relations between the two Muslim countries that an Azeri naval flotilla visited Iran.

The Iranian Navy has so far deployed several flotillas to the Caspian Seas littoral states to convey the message of peace and friendship and to promote security in the region.
