"Exports from Iran to Russia in the first six months of 2017 increased by 36 percent as compared with last year's corresponding period," Commercial attach of Iran's embassy in the Russian Federation Farhad Parand said.
He said that the statistics of the two countries' foreign trade shows that Iran's export to Russia has increased from $168 million in the first half of 2016 to $228 million in the corresponding period in 2017.
"What is eye-catching concerning the growth are the efforts by the Iranian side to strike a reasonable balance in the country's trade with Russia," Parand said.
In a relevant development in late July, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanayee and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov underlined the need for increasing the volume of trade exchanges between Tehran and Moscow.
During the meeting in Moscow, Sanayee and Morgulov explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating mutual cooperation between Iran and Russia.
The two sides also discussed a diverse range of other issues, including implementation of agreements reached between Tehran and Moscow during the visit of President Hassan Rouhani to Russia in late March.
Morgulov voiced his satisfaction with the development of all-out relations between Iran and Russia, and called for the implementation of the letters of the agreements and definition of new economic projects to broaden and deepen the bilateral ties more than before.
Sanayee, for his part, pointed to the exchange of high-ranking delegations between the two countries in the course of the past months, and said that the heads of states of the two countries are determined to develop relations in all areas.
He also referred to a statistical growth in bilateral economy and trade ties between Iran and Russia, and expressed the hope to see a noticeable rise in the volume of trade between the two countries till the end of the current year with orders of the heads of states put into practice.
