FM spox: Myanmars disregard for intl. communitys calls unacceptable

MNA Irans FM Spokesman Ghasemi said the Burmese governments disregard for international communitys calls on stopping violence against Rohingya Muslims is unacceptable.

Iran was among the first countries which responded to the Rohingya crisis as its humanitarian duty, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said Saturday, adding at least two correspondence between Foreign Ministry Zarif with UN Secretary General, several telephone conversations between President Rouhani or FM Zarif with heads and foreign ministers of other Muslim countries, addressing the Rohingya crisis in Tehran and New York by Iranian president and foreign minister in the past month, as well as delivering humanitarian aid to Burmese refugees in Bangladesh, and the efforts made by local and international media of Iran for reflecting the grievous situation of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh to the world, have been merely a part of our many diplomatic and political measures aimed at resolving the crisis and alleviating the suffering of Rohingya Muslims.

Ghasemi went on to add, ever since the new wave of crackdown on Rohingya Muslims broke out, we have made repeated requests to the Burmese government to permit an Iranian mission headed by a deputy foreign minister and carrying humanitarian aid to be sent to Myanmar, but so far no preparation has been made despite Myanmars promises.

The Iranian diplomat further commended the government of Bangladesh for accepting a great number of Burmese refugees, and called on the international community to take more serious measures in putting an immediate stop to the displacement of Rohingya Muslims and accelerate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the suppressed people.
