Zarif hails implementation of peace process in Syria

IRNA Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif hailed the process of maintaining peace in Syria.

Zarif made the remarks in a Friday interview with reporters after his meeting with Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid Muallem which took place on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

'We had discussion about the achievements against Daesh in the eastern front and the need to continue the fight with terrorists and extremists and as well as allowing greater humanitarian assistance to all of Syrians,' the Iranian foreign minister said elaborating on the need to fight terrorists and extremists.

'We are happy that as the government is establishing control in de-escalation zones. A lot of refugees and a lot of internally displaced are coming back and we hope that the international community is coming to aid of Syrian people in order to reestablish normalcy in Syria for the Syrian population who have suffered extensively in the hands of extremists.'

Responding to a question on the way to deal with terrorist group Al-Nusra Front, Zarif said, 'We believe that the two organizations that have been recognized by the Security Council as terrorist organizations require the common confrontation by the international community.'

'I think what is taking place against Daesh in Deir ez-Zor [eastern Syria] is important.'

'We are concerned about how the US is dealing with this issue because it seems that it is impeding the efforts against Daesh. [It] is also important to deal with Al-Nusra Front where Al-Nusra Front is more active and more operative.'
