IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif says Iran will side Syrian people in endeavors to reconstruct Syria.
Speaking at the end of a high-ranking meeting in the United Nations to discuss Syria fate, Zarif said the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes international attention to humanitarian assistance and reconstruction of Syria. ‘Iran will also side Syrian people in the reconstruction process.’
‘The idea of humanitarian assistance to Syria and reconstruction of the country can be taken as a positive move, especially regarding the fact that over recent months, the resistance has gained victories over Takfiri and Daesh groups in Syria and that major portion of Syrian desert has been liberated.’
Furthermore, a large number of Syrians immigrating abroad are getting repatriated, said Zarif, adding that on the same ground, ‘we should think of restoration of political calm to Syria and its reconstruction.’
‘I think sensitivity of international community to help Syria free from any political motivation should be taken as a positive gesture and the Islamic Republic of Iran continues to side Syrian people in that respect regarding the fact that over the past years it has been offering extensive and humanitarian support and assistance to them.’
The high-ranking meeting on Syria was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting. It had been arranged by the European Union and chaired by the EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini.
