Iranian, Turkish envoys review regional issues in Baghdad

IRNA Iranian and Turkish top diplomats in Baghdad exchanged views on important regional developments, particularly the ongoing situation in Iraq in a meeting held on Sunday.

The meeting was held by Iran's Ambassadors to Iraq Iraj Masjedi and his Turkish counterpart Fatih Y?ld?z.

While Iraq has lately been involved in counter-terrorism operations against the terrorist group of Daesh (ISIS) in its western areas, it is now being faced with new challenges over holding a referendum in the Kurdistan Region which is governed by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), with the city of Erbil as its capital.
Efforts are underway both from inside and outside Iraq to solve the existing problem between Baghdad and Erbil.

An independence referendum is approved by Iraqi Kurdistan parliament to be held on September 25 despite harsh oppositions from the federal government in Baghdad, and warnings from neighboring countries on the repercussions.
