Iran urges Islamic world to unite for preserving rights of Rohingya Muslims

MNA Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Bahram Ghasemi voiced concern over the deteriorating situation of Muslims in Myanmar and urged the Islamic world to act for preserving the rights of the Muslims.


Iran's diplomatic body has always been concerned about the situation of Muslims across the world, asserted Bahram Ghasemi, the Spokesperson of Irans Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday, following up the condition of the oppressed Muslims of Myanmar is also in the agenda of Iran's foreign Ministry.

The diplomat recounted that Iranian FM Zarif had already sent a letter on the issue to UN general secretary, back in January, voicing concern over the deteriorating situation of Rohingya Muslims. Mr. Zarif asked Mr. Antnio Guterres to take steps more actively and in interaction with Burmese government to put an end to the serious concerns of the international community about the situation of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

The spokesperson of the foreign ministry gave an account of the efforts made by the Iranian diplomatic agency about filing the situation of Burmese Muslims at international communities specially the UN. He highlighted that the issue is now critical not only to the Muslims of the world, but also to the followers of other religions and all non-Muslim governments.

Zarif touched upon the systematic discrimination, violence, and hatred practiced against Muslims in Myanmar at OICs Emergency Ministerial Meeting in Kuala Lumpur in January 2017, underlined the Iranian diplomat, Mr. Zarif called for the unity of the Islamic world in supporting the Rohingya Muslims as a collective duty of Muslim countries.

Pointing to the foreign minister's telephone conversations with counterparts in Turkey, Malaysia, and Indonesia on an immediate halt to violence against Muslims, Mr. Ghasemi articulated that the same kind of talks are slated to be held with the FMs of other Muslim countries.

Those self-proclaimed advocates of human rights should denounce the anti-humanitarian and violent measures of Burmese government against Burmese Muslims, which have led to the carnage and forced immigration of a great number of them stressed the Iranian diplomat, and call upon the international community, especially the UN, to take a practical measure for stopping the streak of crimes.

The Iranian diplomat asked the Burmese government to take up a realistic policy and wisdom for moving toward establishing peace and friendly coexistence and preventing from further violation of Muslims rights and its fossilization.

If the Islamic countries stand against the genocide in Myanmar unanimously, the perpetrators of this horrific violence would surely retreat, underlined Mr. Ghasemi urging the Islamic world to unite for the Rohingya Muslims, as a proposal of the Islamic Republic of Iran for defending the rights of the Muslim minority in Myanmar.
