August 30, The Iran Project - The Friday statements by US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley who urged the IAEA to request access to Iranian military sites have to a large extent drawn Iranian officials angry reactions.

The demands over inspection of military sites by US were seen as part of Trump administration attempts to withdraw from the nuclear deal.

The deal was reached between Iran and the P5+1 countries � namely the US, Russia, China, France, Britain, and Germany � in July 2015 and took effect in January 2016.

US President Donald Trump has called the JCPOA � which was negotiated under his predecessor, Barack Obama � �the worst deal ever� and repeatedly threatened to tear it up.

?During a live broadcast on Tuesday night (Aug 29), President Hassan Rouhani in reaction to Haley�s pressure on IAEA for inspection of the country's military sites said that Iran�s relations with the Agency is dictated by regulations not what the US wants.

Rouhani noted that,��the IAEA will not give into the US demands; and even if it did, we will not give into pressure and bullying. We will work with the Agency within the framework of rules and regulations and the Agency has in turn worked with us in a constructive atmosphere.�

�Today, the US is in the most unfavorable conditions and Iran is in the most favorable,� he stressed, noting the support of 28 European countries for the nuclear deal despite the US attempts at undermining it.

Repeatedly,�the European Union�s foreign policy chief voiced strong support for the deal with Iran.

Also on Tuesday Iranian Leader's top adviser, Ali Akbar Velayati, denounced the recent demand by US official, saying �the Americans will not see their dream of visiting Iran�s military facilities under the pretext of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or any other excuse come true.

�The recent events mark the win streak of Iran and its allies in the region,�, he told reporters.

�The second largest city in Iraq, Mosul, was liberated from the enemies, despite enemies� predictions,� asserted the veteran diplomat who acted as Iran�s FM for 26 years from1981 to 1977, �Now the city is in the hand of Iraqi people and legitimate government.�

He underlined that the same thing happened about Tal Afar where the opponents of the Iraqi nation and government tied their hopes to.

On August 27, a�senior adviser to Iran's Leader says the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and world powers allows no inspection of the country's military sites.

No foreign and domestic official and not even unauthorized officials of the Iranian Armed Forces are allowed to inspect Iran�s military sites without Ayatollah Khamenei's permission, Major General Hassan Firouzabadi, who advises the Leader on military affairs, said.

In addition,�Qasem Jasemi, a member of Iran's Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated that�such inspections would be a red line and would have no justification, as Iran has repeatedly stressed it had no plans to gain access to nuclear weapons.

Trump was looking for a reason to violate the deal, Jasemi explained, stressing that according to a bill approved by the Iranian parliament, Western countries were not allowed to inspect Iranian military sites and headquarters.

Meanwhile. Iran�s Defense Minister Amir Hatami said that the demands of US Ambassador to the United Nations for IAEA�s inspection of Iran�s military sites are �not even worth mentioning.�

�Nikki Haley is not in a position to be making such claims, and even the claim is not worth mentioning,� said Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami.

 

On August 30, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif rejected Haley�s remarks on the landslide nuclear deal, and said she is not well informed of the content of the agreement.

�What Ms. Haley has raised mostly shows that she is uninformed of the text of the nuclear deal. The nuclear deal is fully explicit and clear in all fields that she has commented about,� he added.

�The extent of inspections has been specified in the nuclear deal and her claim that the degree of verification and approval possible for the Agency (International Atomic Energy Organization) depends on the extent of the inspections is basically a wrong word because the nuclear deal has specified the issue of verification and its framework and basis and now we are acting based on what has been demanded in the nuclear deal,� Zarif noted.

?Earlier, Zarif in a letter to the IAEA chief said Haley�s visit aimed at �pressing the Agency� violates the terms of the JCPOA and UN Security Resolution 2231 on the agency�s independence and commitment to protecting sensitive information.

Haley had traveled to Vienna, where the IAEA is headquartered, as part of the Trump administration�s �review� of the deal. There, she met with IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano.
