Iranian Supreme Leader asks Gov't to broaden ties with world states

FNA- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined the necessity for the government to further expand relations and cooperation with the world countries.

Speaking at a meeting here in Tehran on Saturday with President Hassan Rouhani and his cabinet members who have just won a vote of confidence from the Iranian parliament, Ayatollah Khamenei asked the administration to "open the diplomatic umbrella to the entire world" and avoid "focusing on relations with a limited number of states".

"In the field of diplomacy you should be up-to-date and act swiftly quickly and vigilantly and with God's assistance, you need to stand against the enemies in future similar to what you have done so far," he added.

Ayatollah Khamenei also underscored the need for the Iranian officials to take good care to stay committed to revolutionary positions and principles, but meantime stressed that such commitment is no way against tact and diplomacy.

In relevant remarks last Sunday, President Rouhani underlined that his new cabinet's foreign minister is required to stand against the US violation of the internationally-accepted 2105 nuclear deal between Tehran and the world powers.

"During this tenure, our foreign minister's most important responsibility is standing beside the nuclear deal and not allowing the US and the enemies of Iran to succeed (in discarding the agreement)," President Rouhani said, addressing the parliamentarians in an open session in Tehran to defend his pick for the post of foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif.

"Today, the biggest responsibility of the foreign ministry is safeguarding the young seedling of the nuclear deal and standing against the US," he stressed.

His comments came after Zarif underlined that the US should either choose to comply with its undertakings under the 2015 nuclear deal or go globally isolated.

"The former US governments came to the negotiating table after trying to impose (their will) and threatening for years and now the US cannot forget its undertakings since such a policy will lead to the US isolation," Zarif said, addressing parliamentarians in Tehran earlier this month.

"As the president said yesterday, Iran has a free hand for important measures and they have even been foreseen in the nuclear deal and it shows our distrust for the US during the (nuclear) negotiations," he added.
