Tasnim � As Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is going to form a new cabinet in his second term, the Foreign Ministry is expected to experience changes in the format of its bureaus with a number of mergers and a special focus on economic policies and international trade.





The Foreign Ministry of Iran has decided to make some revisions to its administrative structure, given the rapid pace of new international developments and the necessity of serving the country�s needs in the economic arena.

In a major alteration, the ministry has decided to establish a �political department� as a link between the foreign minister and the director generals.

The new department will reportedly comprise three bureaus handling American and European affairs, Arab and African affairs, and Asia and Oceania affairs.

The purpose of the decision is said to be ushering in more agility in the ministry�s function.

Moreover, the political department will take over the responsibility of handling all issues concerning the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

The Foreign Ministry�s department of legal and international affairs is currently tasked with dealing with the JCPOA issues, and the expected change is meant to signal that there is no chance of revision of the nuclear deal in legal terms.

Changes in the Foreign Ministry�s structure should be ratified by the Parliament.

On Tuesday, President Rouhani submitted the list of his proposed ministerial picks to the Parliament for a vote of confidence, reappointing Mohammad Javad Zarif as the Minister of Foreign Affairs for a second term.
