Iran facing new form of threats, army commander says

Tasnim – Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said the country is confronting new types of threats and needs to develop defense capacities accordingly.

“Today, we are facing a new form of threats that are different to those in the past in terms of their type, form, and size,” Brigadier General Pourdastan said in a visit to the headquarters of the Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base on Monday.

Therefore, he added, “All of us have a duty to create the (country’s) needed defense capacity in proportion to the threats.”

The commander further hailed the country’s integrated air defense network and said the Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base has made great strides in confronting new threats.

Iran is considered by many experts as the “island of stability” in a region which faces many security challenges.

In August 2016, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the strong security in Iran despite crises and insecurity in the region.

“Thank God and through the appreciated efforts and endeavors of the military and security forces, the country enjoys a strong security shield while regional countries are filled with incidents and insecurity,” the Leader said.
