Moscow opposes any rewriting or reinterpretation of JCPOA

IRNA Russia rejects any attempts to rewrite or reinterpret the nuclear agreement between Iran and the world major powers, says Sergei Ryabkov, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation on Tuesday.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister made the remarks before his visit to Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, saying that questioning the viability and the relevance of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is very disturbing and of concern for us.

We in Russia, the whole government and those who participated in the talks on JCPOA tried to impress the US administration that there is no alternative to JCPOA, he added.

This is a very advantageous agreement for benefit of both Iran and the regional security and stability and global security and stability, Ryabkov further said.

The issue of regional stability and developments in the region in particular in regard to crisis in Syria and what we believe is a very positive role of Iran, was discussed by the presidents, he answered to a question that whether JCPOA had been discussed by Putin and Trump in their visit on the sideline of the G20 Summit.

They focused mostly on Syria as a whole and some arrangements there, Ukraine, bilateral relationship between Moscow and Washington which is quite difficult and the accusation of the US side on so-called Russian involvement in the US election which are completely wrong and came out from an empty place, were the things mostly discussed between the two presidents, said Ryabkov.

We are deeply disappointed by three rounds of additional US sanctioning on entities both in Iran and some other countries already after the Trump administration inaugurated and took office, Ryabkov said referring to lack of commitment of the American side toward JCPOA.

He further continued, This is something that contradicts the spirit of JCPOA if not the letter besides we think there are obvious attempts to pick up some elements of the JCPOA and kind of tighten the approach of the US towards what Iran should do.

It is also a very unwelcom attempt to test the good will and good face of the Iranian side which now you fully and completely observe as well as the implementation of the JCPOA, he stressed.

So problems are there and they are related to the behavior of the US side under the new administration, he added.

We are hopeful though that upon completion of the US reviewing its so-called Iranian policy, they will conclude that there is no reason to further put JCPOA in question, he pointed out.
