IRNA - Head of the National Iraqi Alliance (NIA) Ammar Hakim said that the Quds Day is a permanent call for resotration of distorted rights of the oppressed Palestinian nation and a day in when Muslims practice unity in support of Palestine.

The senior Iraqi official made the remarks in a message released on the occasion of the International Quds Day, the last Friday of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

The International Quds Day increases public awareness on the issue of Palestine and is an opportunity for people to renew their allegiance to the Palestinian cause, Amar said.

He added that the occasion is the clearest way to activate unity among Muslims regarding the issue of Palestine.

Like their fellow Iranian citizens, the Iraqi people attended the Quds Day rallies on Friday to demonstrate their support for the oppressed people of Palestine.

The International Quds Day was marked in Iran and 85 other countries on Friday.

The Iranian demonstrators chanted anti-Israeli and anti-US slogans during the rallies.

The day of anti-Zionist expression was first declared by late Imam Khomeini, the leader of Irans 1979 Islamic Revolution, who established the annual event in order to bring international attention to the Palestinian cause.
