Moscow confirms new Astana meeting on Syria slated for July 4-5

Sputnik - The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Monday that the next meeting on the Syrian settlement in the Kazakh capital of Astana will take place on July 4-5.





MOSCOW (Sputnik) The Foreign Ministry ofKazakhstan mentioned these dates earlier onMonday. The office ofUN Special Envoy forSyria Staffan de Mistura also confirmed the timeframe forGeneva talks onSyria, scheduled tobegin onJuly 10, followingAstana negotiations.
"According tothe updated information, the meeting onSyria inAstana, asof now, is planned forJuly 4-5," the ministry's representatives told reporters.


The participants ofthe meeting are expected todiscuss documents regulating the parameters ofthe de-escalation zones aswell asthe issue ofunfettered humanitarian access and rebuilding ofinfrastructure.


The latest roundof Astana talks held inMay resulted inan agreement tocreate four de-escalation zones inSyria. The monitoring and management ofthe safe zones is carried outby military personnel fromthe ceasefire guarantor states, namely, Russia, Turkey and Iran.
