“Iran in constant race with super powers in missile domain”

IFP- A top Iranian commander says the Islamic Republic is involved in a constant competition with world powers in different areas, particularly in the field of missile capabilities.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri says hegemonic powers are currently not powerful enough to get engaged in a conflict with Iran.

“Of course, we have no intention of engaging them, either; but we are involved in a constant competition with them in different areas, including the missile field,” said the top general.

Addressing a Monday gathering of science and technology experts, he touched upon hegemonic powers’ weak points when it comes to engaging in a war with Iran.

He said Iran is among the world’s top missile powers thanks to efforts by local scientists.

“We are racing the hegemonic system in numerous areas, including underground, marine, air and space technologies,” the general noted.

“This comes as their military budget is multiple times larger than our defence funding.”

The general also touched upon the US massive military presence in the Middle East region and the military actions carried out by “hegemonic powers.”

“The hegemonic system created the ISIS Takfiri-terrorist group, which is the result of its research on extremist Islamist groups in the region,” the general said.

General Baqeri’s comments came after Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) fired six medium-range surface-to-surface missiles at ISIS fortifications in Syria from two western Iranian provinces on Sunday night.

According to the IRGC, a large number of ISIS terrorists were killed in the attack. Heavy casualties were also inflicted on the terrorists.

The missile operation was in retaliation for the recent ISIS-claimed terror attacks in Tehran, which killed 17 people.
