Who benefits from Qatar diplomatic row

Sputnik News- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently approved the Turkish Parliament's decision to deploy Turkish soldiers to Qatar and vowed to keep supporting Doha in its regional conflict; Turkish political analysts commented to Sputnik on how this could complicate Turkey's relationship with the US and who could benefit from this crisis.

On June 7, Turkeys parliament ratified two deals ondeploying troops inQatar and training the countrys gendarmerie forces.

Late Thursday night, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed offon the Turkish parliament approval.

"Turkish troops are coming toQatar forthe sake ofthe secur?ty ofthe entire region," Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said duringhis press briefing onthe recent crisis witha group ofArab countries led bySaudi Arabia and Egypt inDoha onThursday.

Dr. Volkan Ozdemir, the Chairman ofAnkara-based EPPEN (Institute forEnergy Markets and Policies) commented toSputnik onthe developments inthe region.

"In the Qatari crisis, Turkey takes upa position infavor ofDoha, and this can complicate Turkish-US relationship," he told Sputnik.

"Qatar has very close political and trade relationship withTurkey, this explains why Ankara takes upa position infavor ofDoha, and not the Saudi Arabia. However it still remains a question how Qatar will be able towithstand the current pressure and towhat extent Turkey is eager tosupport it," the expert added.

Dr. Ozdemir also noted that the policy ofrapprochement betweenthe US and Iran, advocated bythe former president Obama, seems tobe over. The current US administration is supporting Saudi Arabia. Thus if Turkey provides a clear and evident support toQatar, it might aggravate Turkish-US relations.

The expert also commented onwho could benefit fromthis crisis. He reminded that Qatar remains one ofthe largest suppliers ofliquified natural gas.
"The crisis can have a negative impact onthe energy sector and increase prices onthese resources. Hence the US and Russia might potentially benefit fromthe crisis," he told Sputnik.

In a separate comment onthe issue, Turkish political analyst Bora Bayraktar, an expert onthe Middle East, told Sputnik Turkiye that Turkey and Qatar have very close relations inmilitary, trade and energy sphere, hence it is ofprimary importance forAnkara tomaintain its cooperation withDoha.
On the other hand, he said, the cooperation withthe Saudi Arabia and other countries ofthe Persian Gulf is ofequal importance toAnkara. Taken Turkey's uneasy foreign policy situation where it has tosimultaneously counteract toa number ofthreats, the regional crisis betweenQatar and a number ofArab countries could negatively affect Turkey.

Bora Bayraktar also commented onQatar's position inthis crisis.

"The Saudi Arabia and other countries ofthe Persian Gulf are concerned overQatar's position onIran. Qatari authorities called Iran a serious power inthe region. This rhetoric has put the Saudis and other regional countries onalert. Besides, Doha's ties withthe Muslim Brotherhood are also a source ofgrave concern forthe Saudi Arabia and other Western countries, asthey regard it asa terrorist organization," he told Sputnik.

However the expert further doubled that insuch a situation Qatar will easily give upits position. More likely, he suggested, Doha won't back offon this issue.
