Speaker reiterates Iranian parliaments firm backing for IRGC Quds Force

Tasnim Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani denounced new anti-Tehran sanctions recently approved by the US Senate, saying Washington should be aware that the parliament supports the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Forces with full power.

Speaking at an open session of the parliament on Sunday, Larijani pointed to the US Senates move to vote to proceed with a bill that would sanction Iran just hours after the Iranian capital suffered terrorist attacks, saying the US strategy is to undermine the country through targeting elements of its dignity.

Resistance in the path of the (Islamic) Revolution and further convergence should be our counteraction, he said, adding that the Iranian parliament will make a firm response to the move by the US Senate.

The Americans should be aware that the Iranian parliament has a strong resolve in the fight against terrorists and supports the IRGC and Quds Forces with full power, he stressed.

In a speech in Tehran on Friday, Larijani had said that the US move to impose new sanctions proves that Iran is facing two Daesh groups, one in the region and one in the international arena, calling Washington the international Daesh.

On Wednesday morning, terrorists launched simultaneous attacks on Irans parliament building in downtown Tehran and on the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, south of the city.

The assailants attacked the parliament building in the morning. Equipped with AK-47 assault rifles, handguns, grenades and suicide vests, the gunmen killed security guards and ordinary people before holding people hostage in the upper floors of the building.

They were all killed by the security forces after an operation that took several hours.

In the other attack at the shrine of Imam Khomeini, one suicide bomber blew himself up while the second one was killed in an exchange of gunfire.

The death toll from Wednesday's incidents in Tehran grew to 17, while more than 40 others were wounded.
