Iran to expand int'l cooperation in marine field: Official

May 30, The Iran Project Iran's National Marine Research Fleet Network has expanded cooperation with German scientists, says an Iranian official.

Referring to the process of constructing the ocean-going research vessel, the Secretary of Iran's National Marine Research Fleet Network Saeed Mazahri said the vessel, financially supported by the vice presidency for science and technology, was made to study the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea, and carry out marine researches and marine research projects.

Following the agreement signed between the vice presidency for science and technology and the Ministry of Science in 2011, the construction of the ocean-going research vessel was started by Shahid Darvishi Shipbuilding Company in Bandar Abbas, Mazahri stated.

The Iranian official also stressed that this research project can pave the ground for the country to enter international arenas in the fields of seas and oceans, adding Iran's ocean-going research vessel is one of the national technological major projects that has been implemented since 2009.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he pointed to the bilateral technological cooperation of the Iranian National Marine Research Fleet with Germanys University of Hamburg, saying the two countries' cooperation issues were determined in three chapters.

In early 2017, in line with developing international activities of the marine knowledge-based industries and technology headquarter of the vice presidency for science and technology, Iranian Marine Research Fleet Network launched a meeting with a delegation from the University of Hamburg and Max Planck research institute in Germany on expansion of technological cooperation.
