Larijani: Iran SCCR responsible for reviewing content of 2030 Agenda

IRNA Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani says that Irans Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution (SCCR) is responsible for examining the content of the UNESCO 2030 Agenda.

Larijani made the remarks in response to a question raised by lawmaker Hossein-Ali Hajidaligani about the issue at the Majlis open session on Sunday.

Larijani reiterated that the UNESCO 2030 Agenda has no legal problem in terms of its form but its content needs to be reviewed.

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is an ambitious, aspirational and universal agenda to wipe out poverty through sustainable development by 2030.

In mid May, spokesman for the Government Mohammad Baqer Nobakht announced that Iran has stopped carrying out the UNESCO 2030 Agenda after opposition of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

At his press conference, Nobakht added the implementation of the Agenda will not be resumed until removal of certain ambiguities.

Ayatollah Khamenei in a recent speech slammed the superpowers' dominance over the United Nations and said, Why should a so-called International community, which is definitely infiltrated by the superpowers, have the right to make decisions for the nations of the world with various cultures?'

The UNESCO 2030 Education Agenda and the like are not issues that the Islamic Republic of Iran could surrender and submit to, the Leader said in his address to a large group of teachers and education specialists and university students on the occasion of the National Teachers' Day on May 7.
