Iraq not getting involved in Trump’s anti-Iran policies: Iraqi FM

IRNA – Commenting on the US President Donald Trump’s anti-Iran propaganda campaign in the Middle East, Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said Baghdad will not get involved in the anti-Tehran policies adopted by Washington.

In an interview with the Spanish newspaper ABC, al-Jaafari stressed that Iraq will not enter any country’s policies against the other.

He made the remarks in response to a question about Trump’s idea to form a new anti-Iran front and whether Iraq will ever participate in it.

Al-Jaafari said many commonalities including geography, history, social affairs and common interests have linked Iraq and Iran.

Tehran has not attacked any areas in Iraq while the northern neighbor,Turkey, entered 110 km into Iraqi territory, however, Baghdad did continue relations with Ankara.

He went on to say that Iraq is a civilized country which does not follow a black and white attitude towards various questions.

Al-Jaafari’s interview with Spain’s ABC was held on the sidelines of the International Conference on Victims of Ethnic and Religious Violence in the Middle East on May 24 in Madrid.
