Iran’s Top General: Deterrent power build-up a priority

Tasnim – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces described plans to boost the country’s deterrent power and intelligence supremacy as a main priority in the military sphere.

One of the top priorities and serious requirements for the Iranian armed forces is keeping a wary eye on hostile moves by deepening full intelligence control, and fortifying the country’s defense shield through “strengthening the deterrent power”, Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said in a statement on Tuesday, released on the occasion of the anniversary of liberation of Khorramshahr, a city in southwestern Iran which had been occupied by the Iraq’s Baathist army in the early 1980s.

Iranian military officials maintain that the Islamic Republic enjoys great intelligence power and defense capabilities in dealing with hostile threats.

In October 2016, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called on Iran’s armed forces to remain in a constant state of preparedness to counter threats.

“The Iranian nation is today faced with a wide range of enemies because of its insistence on Islam, independence, sublime values… and the Armed Forces must be ready all the time to play their role if necessary,” the Leader stressed.
