Supreme Leader: Iranian nation, Islamic Republic winner of elections

IRNA Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a message on Saturday praised Iranians' massive turnout in May 19 presidential and said Iranian nation is the real winner of the countrys presidential elections.

Great Iranian nation once again demonstrated their national will to the world public opinion and massively turned out in the country's elections bolstering pillars of democracy, the Supreme Leader said.

Islamic Iran once again pushed back ill-wishers, spiteful and envious enemies and brought happiness to the hearts of its friends, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

I advised the Iranian nation to mind their unity and solidarity resulting in national authority and all should spare no efforts to carry out their duties in attaining big goals,' the Supreme Leader said.

I do advise the president-elect and the next cabinet ministers to do their utmost to remove the country's problems and never neglect such great duty, the Supreme Leader said, adding that they should also mind needy people and those living in villages and deprived areas and engage in fight against corruption and social maladies on their agenda, Ayatollah Khamenei added.

National dignity and observing wisdom in establishing relations with the international communications with reliance on international strength are among priorities of a revolutionary and Islamic management, the Supreme Leader went on to say.

It sounds necessary to appreciate people from all walks of life who took part in these elections and those persuaded them mainly Ulema, religious figures, university intellectuals as well as political, cultural and artistic figures, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

I would also like to thank all presidential candidates who played significant role in eliminating and encouraging people to play significant role to this end,' the Supreme Leader said.

I would also like to thank those who played role in administrating presidential as well as city council affairs, Ayatollah Khamenei added.

'I would also like to thank those in charge of preserving elections' security, national media for their round-the-clock efforts in handling the grave task,' the Supreme Leader said.

Hassan Rouhani won a landslide victory in the 12th presidential election on Saturday and was re-elected as the new president of Iran winning 57% of votes.

According to the Interior Ministry, Rouhani obtained 23,549,616 votes out of the total 41,220,131, while his rival Ebrahim Raeisi received 15,786,449 ballots.

Mostafa Mirsalim and Mostafa Hashemi Tab, two other hopefuls, won 478,215 and 215,450 votes respectively.

Out of over 56 million Iranians who were eligible to vote in the 12th presidential election, over 40 millions took part in the event.

The 12th presidential election was held nationwide and in 102 world countries on May 19.

The presidential candidates included President Hassan Rouhani, Custodian of the Imam Reza (AS) Holy Shrine Ebrahim Raeisi, former minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mostafa Mirsalim and former Minister of Physical Education Mostafa Hashemi Taba.
