Huge turnout of people in elections disappoints enemy: Top security official

IRNA – Iran’s top security official said on Wednesday that people’s participation in national events and their huge turnout in the forthcoming election would strengthen the Islamic Revolution’s foundations and would disappoint the enemies.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani made the remarks in a statement released on the occasion of Iran’s presidential and local elections on May 19.

Elections are opportunities for the growth of public awareness and promotion of national security, he added.

The official urged huge turnout of people in the forthcoming elections, and said that unfortunately, several regional states lack systems with popular support and free elections and they try to preserve their ruling by adopting security measures.

Governments which do not have popular support, are very vulnerable towards threats, he noted.

Shamkhani said that people’s participation in the national events would also increase the country’s political, security and defensive power and is a credit for the country to realize the nation rights in the international scene.

Consolidation and development of political, social and cultural unity and reinforcing the links between people and the establishment is the most effective weapon against common threats, he noted.
