Sputnik - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on Sunday on his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House, saying that they discussed the situation in Syria, eventually reaching the common understanding of the issue.





MOSCOW (Sputnik) Lavrov said that his conversation withUS President Donald Trump earlier this week lasted forabout one hour, and the sides expressed commitment that both, Russia and the United States, aswell asregional players should influence numerous Syrian conflicting sides inorder toencourage them toimplement UN Security Council resolutions.

"We worked forabout two hours with [US State Secretary] Rex Tillerson, and then discussed Syria withUS President Donald Trump atthe White House fornearly one hour, first and foremost, fromthe point ofview ofthe developments, created last year and continued withthe new administration," Lavrov said inthe air ofChannel One onSunday.

According toLavrov, the matter is that Russia and the United States, together withother big regional players, such asTurkey, Iran and the Persian Gulf States, should influence different conflicting sides inSyria and encourage them toimplement the UN Security Council resolutions, which require talks, development ofa new constitution and preparations forthe election.
"We have a mutual understanding withthe United States regarding this issue. However, it is easier toagree onthese things, rather thanto implement them inpractice, taking intoaccount that there are many players inSyria onthe ground," Lavrov added.


On May 10, Lavrov met withTrump atthe White House and held talks withTillerson, duringwhich they discussed Syria, Ukraine and bilateral relations.
