Dozens of coal miners trapped in northeast Iran after explosion

Tasnim– More than 40 coal miners have been trapped after a gas explosion and raging fire in a mine in Golestan Province, northeast of Iran.

According to local officials, over 40 miners are believed to have been trapped after the explosion at midday Wednesday in ‘Zemestan-Yurt’ coal mine, located in Khoshyeylaq area in the northeastern province of Golestan.

Shahin Fathi, an official with Iran’s Red Crescent Society said 15 miners have been rescued so far, six of whom were taken to hospital.

Rescue teams from local medical centers, the Red Crescent, and nearby mines have been dispatched to the site of the accident.

Khoshyeylaq is 375 kilometers northeast of Tehran.
