Mohamed Alloush to head Syrian armed opposition at Astana Talks

Sputnik - Head of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry press service Anuar Janakova said that the delegation of the Syrian armed opposition has confirmed its participation in Astana talks on Syria settlement, and it will be headed by leader of Jaysh al-Islam group Mohamed Alloush.


ASTANA (Sputnik) The delegation ofthe Syrian armed opposition has confirmed its participation inAstana talks onSyria settlement, and it will be headed byleader ofJaysh al-Islam group Mohamed Alloush, Head ofthe Kazakh Foreign Ministry press service Anuar Janakova said Tuesday.


"All participants ofthe international meeting onSyria inAstana, including representatives ofthe armed Syrian opposition led byMohamed Alloush, have confirmed their participation," Janakova was quoted assaying byKazinform news agency.


Zhainakov added that experts fromthe United Nations and representatives ofthe countries-guarantors, namely Russia, Iran and Turkey have already started toarrive inAstana.

The next roundof Astana talks onSyria is scheduled forWednesday-Thursday, while a meeting atthe experts level is set totake place onTuesday.

UN Special Envoy forSyria Staffan de Mistura, representatives fromJordan and the United States are expected toattend the negotiations asobservers. Russian delegation atAstana talks will be headed byRussian special presidential envoy forSyria Alexander Lavrentiev.

The first three rounds oftalks onSyrian settlement brokered byRussia, Turkey and Iran, were held inKazakh capital Astana onJanuary 23-24, February 15-16 and March 14-15. During the talks, the participants agreed toset upa ceasefire monitoring group, amongother issues.
