Handicrafts export rises by 60% in post-JCPOA: Official

IRNA Deputy head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization said on Monday that export of handicrafts registered an increase of 60 percent after the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.


According to Public Relations of Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Department, Bahman Namvar-Motlaq told a local meeting that handicrafts indices are growing in all provinces and local sales registered a remarkable growth.

Handicrafts workshops have become operational, he said, noting that knowledge-based centers have also been commissioned in cooperation with the universities.

Irans handicrafts had gone out of business but now they are known worldwide thanks to holding international conferences on handicrafts including those in Isfahan and East Azarbaijan provinces, he said.

During the meeting, the organizations directors general also announced that displaying Iranian handicrafts in 25 foreign exhibitions, increase of handicrafts exports by 67 percent in the year to March 20, 2017 and decline of imports by 52 percent were among the achievements of the organization last year (ending on March 20, 2017).
