US drops largest non-nuclear bomb ever in Afghanistan
IRNA The Pentagon, the US Department of Defense has announced that the US army has used the largest non-nuclear bomb in Afghanistan against Daesh (ISIS) terrorists.

US media reported that the assault had taken place last night at 7:19 local time near the Pakistani border in a district named Achin in the eastern Nangarhar Province.

According to Reuters, this 2003-tested bomb was used to target a network of caves and tunnels in which ISIS terrorists were hiding.

According to Pentagon spokesman Adam Stump, this was the first time this 21,600 pound (9,797 kg) bomb, containing 11 tons of TNT, was used.

The Mother of all Bombs was dropped from a MC-130 aircraft and is particularly effective against clusters of
targets on or just underneath the ground, Reuters writes.

The US Army invaded Afghanistan in 2001. The country has since been scene of various interventions by the United States.
