Senegal UN envoy praises Irans efforts for solving Syria crisis

April 13,The Iran Project PermanentRepresentative of Senegal to the United Nations has appreciated the efforts of Iran, Russia and Turkey to conclude Astana agreements aimed at resolving Syria crisis.

In a speech regarding recent developments in Syria in the United Nations, Fode Seck PermanentRepresentative of the Republic of Senegal to the United Nations thanked Staffan de Mistura, the UN Special Envoy for Syria for his attempts to establish peace in Syria.

The UN diplomat previously wrote to Iran, Russia and Turkey, pleading with the trio to urgently help save the Syria-wide ceasefire, which has recently been undermined by militant attacks against government positions near Damascus and Hama.

On the back of the landmark truce, the three states have mediated three rounds of peace negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition groups in Astana, Kazakhstan, since the beginning of 2017.

Fode Seck stressed the continuation and strengthening the ceasefire relying on Astana agreements, and appreciated the efforts of Iran, Russia, and Turkey as the main supporters of the agreements.

He went on to say that sending humanitarian aid to this war-torn country is also as important as setting ceasefire.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The UN envoy for Syria estimates that over 400,000 people have been killed in the conflict.
