Come dine in the sky: First suspended restaurant opens in Iran
Sputnik - The countrys first "flying" restaurant, offering diners a gourmet experience 40 meters off the ground, has opened in the city of Shandiz in the Khorasan Rezavi Province on the east of Iran.





The unusual restaurant can accommodate upto 28 guests, alongwith 10 members ofstaff "on board." With the help ofa crane, the 6.5-ton construction rises 40 meters abovethe ground. Each session lasts exactly one hour. According tosafety rules, visitors are secured bysafety belts, which must be kept onthroughout the experience.

?The opening ceremony ofIran's first "flying restaurant" was attended byHosein Zarsefat, the head ofthe regional department ofCultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization ofIran, Parstoday news agency reported.

About 20 billion Iranian Rials (US $600,000) were invested inthe new gastronomic attraction, according toZarsefat. The restaurant was built solely bythe forces ofIranian engineers, although previously the monopoly forthe construction ofsuch eateries belonged tospecialists fromBelgium. There are about40 ofthem aroundthe world, and the Shandiz high-altitude restaurant has outmatched all ofthem bythe novelty ofthe technologies used and bythe maximum height ofthe ascent.


?Contrary toBelgian's "flying" restaurants, the Iranian one also has a special cooker, which can heat upto 40 dishes simultaneously. Moreover, visitors ofthe restaurant can do bungee jumping there froma height of35 to40 meters.
